The Theodore Boutique Hotel – a hotel chain which opened in May 2016. The Theodore is based in Chania, Crete.  As a new entity and with no existing branding we wanted to ensure that the look and feel fully encompassed what The Theodore represents itself as.

The hotel is marketed towards people seeking an escape from the day to day activities of life. Representing itself as a spiritual sanctuary for people to be invited into and leave feeling rejuvenated.

The Story & First Sketches

The hotel beach has a view of the small island Aigos Teodorou. They wanted to directly incorporate the iconic shape of this island while still remaining pertinent to their ethos and Greek heritage. We implemented the circular fashion so that the entire silhouette would represent the Greek ‘Theta’. The circular shape was chosen over the classic ovoid so that it would represent the symbol for the Greek god Apollo and the Ouroboros symbol.

Colour Palette

Taking inspiration from classic Minoan art we took two colours from a Minoan painting of a bull. Overlaying them with the brick colours which surround the hotel I then used the two colours to create a colour wheel with the hues in-between.

Final Design

We wanted the website to emulate the same feelings as the rest of The Theodore branding as well as to represent the ethics it stands for. Using imagery from the surrounding areas we made sure to have the information laid out in a clear minimal way making effective use of the brand identity.
